Dear Kate,
We’ve never met, but you seem to understand the issues that come with yoga practice and yoga pants. Or rather, those that arise when combining underwear and yoga pants (as you would). Not only is there the see-through issue, no, it won’t even take a leg-behind-the-head posture to feel that ‘a little adjustment‘ is needed. And I’m not even talking about the infamous camel toe.
So not only do we worry that everyone in the rows behind us can see our underwear, we also worry that it won’t stay in place. But with pants that potentially are see-through it’s not really possible to skip the underwear, right? (17% of women do so anyway, according to your market research.)
So you’ve decided – watch out, Lululemon – to add a new type of pants to the oh-so-crowded market for yoga stretch pants. But you made this one different. It’s worn without underwear. Here’s a close-up:
And this is what it looks like while doing fancy stuff:
So what are these pants like in real life? First of all, they’re made of thick material that isn’t super-duper-stretchy. The fabric content breaks down as follows: Body: 86% supplex, 14% spandex; outer lining: 76% nylon, 24% lycra; lining: 100% micropolyester. It’s still stretchy enough to get into all postures, but not like those flimsy pants that you can stretch f-o-r-e-v-e-r….which is probably also why they are not see-through. No, there’s no doubt: they’re not. The insert, seams running along the legs and the wide waistband are also really, really flattering. They’re like compression pants, just more comfortable, and would also work nicely for runners and cyclists (however, no-underwear running shorts have been around for a while…).
The only downside? You’ll need to get a few of them – washing after each use highly recommended 😉 The pants are made in the US, so there’s also a bit of a price tag attached. You can view the full range here.
On a side note: Dear Kate also runs ad campaigns like this one (in response to a Victoria’s Secret campaign):
What’s your choice of yoga leggings? Are you as overwhelmed by the choice as I am?
I’d love to hear your thoughts!

I have to wear underwear, but never have the issue of outlines or moving. I love my k.deer and NiyamaSol ones the best. Buddha Pants rock too. 😀

On a side note: I found that they’re rather small, so if you’re size S you may want to order size M as well to compare. 🙂
